Aug. 4th, 2004 10:06 pmIt's not so bad this year.
Maybe it's because I'm an upperclassmen now, maybe it's because of the new director and his more laid-back way of operating, maybe it's because the weather has been nicer this year than in the past . . . Whatever it is, something is making it a whole heckuva lot better.
Today, for example, was a lot of fun. Even though it started with a sectional during which we all almost died from the paint fumes coming from the art hallway. And no, they were not paints being used by art students. Rather, a man in a jumpsuit and a face mask was painting a new room with some noxious-smelling paint. It was horrid.
But other than that, it's ok. Even though I've been made section leader and a squad leader . . . My leadership skills are not quite as developed as, say, my music skills. : /
After camp today, Becky, Sara, and I went to Target to get books for our drill charts, as we're all squad leaders. And who do you think we ran into at Target? Of course. Josh.
I have missed that boy so much. I never would have even guessed how much I would miss him after he graduated, not even when I was totally infatuated with him last year. I was so totally unprepared for the empty feeling I got the first day of camp, when he and Reggie weren't there for me to talk with. I actually started missing him after our 3-hour rehearsal last Tuesday, when i realized he would not be there at all this year. I wrote a poem about that at work; maybe I'll post it later. Maybe.
Thank the heavens for email, though. I got his email address, and of course I'll be using it. The seniors' absence this year, though, will be so hard to get used to. No more Eric playing techno music at lunch, no more Charlie and Jon singing random songs, no more Josh with whom to marvel at classical music and discuss orchestra, no more Reggie to lead us clarinets . . . Oh. My. God.
